Next up for Ivy League track and field athletes are the NCAA East Regionals to be held at the Irwin Belk Track on the campus of North Carolina A&T University in Greensboro, N.C., on May 29-30.
The regional process has been a part of the NCAA Championship since 2003 and the top five individual and top three relay finishers from the four regions will advance automatically. The full slate of NCAA events — except the 10,000-meter runs and the multi-events — will be contested in Greensboro for a ticket to nationals, which will be held June 10-13 at John McDonnell Field in Fayetteville, Ark. There are also a limited number of at-large openings that will be determined following the automatic entries.
In the first six years of the East Regional, Ivy Leaguers have been event champions 14 times:
2003 — Sam Burley (Penn), 800m Run; Brian Chaput (Penn), Javelin Throw
2004 — Steve Sundell (Columbia), 5,000m Run; Brian Chaput (Penn), Javelin Throw; Chelo Canino (Princeton), Pole Vault
2005 — Sean Furey (Dartmouth), Javelin Throw; Delilah DiCrescenzo (Columbia), Steeplechase
2006 — Rayon Taylor (Cornell), Triple Jump; Anna Willard (Brown), Steeplechase
2007 — Muhammad Halim (Cornell), Triple Jump; Morgan Uceny (Cornell), 800m Run
2008 — Justin Frick (Princeton), High Jump; Muhammad Halim (Cornell), Triple Jump; Jesse Carlin (Penn), 800m Run
