Women's Preview: Yale Bulldogs

Coach Mark Young is looking to junior All-American Kate Grace (Santa Monica, Calif.), his Bulldogs’ top returnee … “She is the defending champ in the 800, but has had some good success at the mile as well,” said Young. “We expect her to be among the top finishers at whatever distance she runs.” … Grace has yet to be beaten this season and her versatility makes her an indispensable and valuable member of the Bulldogs’ squad, both as an individual and as a relay contributor … Last year at NCAA she became just the fourth Heps female to run under 2:05 in the 800 indoor, joining Cornell’s Doriane Lambelet and Morgan Uceny and Harvard’s Meredith Rainey … Senior 500m school record holder Claudia Duncan (Harlingen, Texas) is “among the league’s best 400 meter runners and we would hope that she’ll score for us there.” … Like Grace, Duncan will be expected to contribute in the relays as well … The Yale women have drawn benefit from the arrival of freshman sprinter and long jumper Adele Jackson-Gibson (Buffalo, N.Y.) … While Young says he will “look for her to contend in both the 60-meter dash and the long jump,” it is interesting to note that she is also a member of the Yale soccer team … But she does not showcase her raw speed (7.76 in the 60) too much as she serves in goal, earning a 2-1 record for the Bulldogs in the fall … The women will also look to veteran high jumper Emily Standish (Pelham, N.H.), who had an excellent meet at Princeton and demonstrated her ability to deliver in big meets when she finished second at Outdoor Heps in 2008 … Young also hopes to pick up some points from freshman middle distance runner Annalies Gamble (Woodbridge, Conn.) as well as senior 3k specialist Alex Cadicamo (Shrub Oak, N.Y.), whose season has been marked by a series of astronomical personal records.
