Women's Preview: Dartmouth Big Green

If you had to pick an athlete to watch from the Big Green women’s squad, you might want to turn your attention to senior Laura Tabor (Portsmouth, N.H.), who recently broke through the five-minute barrier in the mile … And not by a little bit as she clocked 4:56.31 … Tabor sized up her breakthrough performance for The Dartmouth, saying, “I’ve been trying to break five since my freshman year. It was definitely an amazing feeling. Now that I have gotten past this barrier I can put myself in races that are more competitive, like Heps and ECACs.” … Other runners should always beware the one that finally shatters a physical and psychological barrier … Senior captain Natalie Stoll (Portland, Ore.) is in the same mold as she recently ran a personal-best 56.88 in the 400-meter dash, which was very close to her all-time best outdoor mark … In that same race, people will need to keep an eye on Alexandra Tanner (Baltimore, Md.), who sat out the fall and has rounded into shape over the last several weeks … Last year at Outdoor Heps Tanner not only won the 400-meter hurdles title, but she posted one of the fastest times in meet history at 59.04 … Multi-eventer Priscilla Trojano (West Bridgewater, Mass.) scored for the Big Green last year in the pentathlon, but this year she will have her sights set on a title … The 3,311 points she scored at the Harvard multi-meet is a League season best and she won by gutting out a 2:26.33 time in the 800 to close stronger … There are six freshman among the top 10 in the League in the weight throw and Emmaline Berg (Holliston, Mass.) leads them all with a toss of 45-6 1/4 … And that throw was far from a fluke, as she has been remarkably consistent … Junior Jessica Robson (Newport Beach, Calif.) is in the hunt in the high jump, where a number of jumpers with similar heights will be looking at a shot for second place, as Columbia’s Monique Roberts is an NCAA qualifier and a prohibitive favorite.
