The Big Red will enter Leverone Field House at Indoor Heps as the two-time defending champion, and with the team’s remarkable depth, Coach Nathan Taylor’s squad would surprise no one with a three-peat, which would be an indoor first for Cornell … There are a number of men on the League’s top 10 performers list, lending to the team-wide talent that Coach Taylor praises … “I would love to have every guy competing for points,” he said. “You always hope to be the team champ, but you have to have production in each event.” … Coach Taylor could well have his wish … A look at the Ivy League performance list heading into the final weekend before Heps show that his Big Red sit nicely in the thick of things, with 47 individual top-10 performances … These performances lay across the board in all events except the 200 meters, which is not contested by the men at Heps … A familiar name is sophomore Nick Huber (Leopold, Ind.), who heads the board in the heptathlon with a school-record 5,191 points, is second to sophomore teammate Danny Hagberg (St. Charles, Ill.) in the 60-meter hurdles (8.15 to 8.24) and sits at fourth in a strong 400-meter field (48.49) and in the high jump (6-7) … Another Nick, freshman Nick Wade (North Attleboro, Mass.), has the fastest Ivy times in both the 800 (1:49.81) and the 1,000 (2:23.99) this season … In fact, he has about a second on the League in the half-mile and nearly two seconds in the 1k … Senior captain Duane Teixeira (Melrose, Mass.), named the Most Outstanding Performance at Outdoor Heps last May, has the farthest long jump in the League this year (24-11) while he and classmate Gary Jones (Webster, N.Y.) have been the only 50-foot triple jumpers in the Ancient Eight this winter … Sophomore thrower Bob Belden (Indianapolis, Ind.), senior miler Charlie Hatch (Nashville, Ill.), junior multi-eventer Alex Holcombe (Souderton, Pa.) and sophomore quarter-miler Kenny McClain (Jacksonville, Fla.) have each shown in their winter performances that they are ready to gather points for the team cause … With such depth and great performances across the board, Coach Taylor feels that his team will “compete for every single point and let the chips fall where they fall.”
