Preparing for Wreck Shop

Tonight, at the Central American & Caribbean Games in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, the favorite in the triple jump has Ivy roots.

That’s because of the 13-person field, the one with the best career and season jumps is Harvard graduate Samyr Laine, who will be leaping for Haiti.

Laine, who has leapt, stepped and bounded more than 57 feet, represented Haiti at the World Indoor Championships in Doha, Qatar, back in March and gave HepsTrack his insights back then. Click here for that story.

In a recent post on his great website, Laine mentioned the CAC Championships, writing, “Haiti’s team is stronger than ever before and I’m feeling 110 percent ready to wreck shop when I get on that runway.”

In addition to Laine in the triple and Nicky Grant taking bronze in the hammer throw, Columbia grad Erison Hurtault, representing Dominica, took fifth in the 400-meter dash, running 45.69. The Assault won all eight Heps 400 dash crowns in his stellar career in Morningside Heights.
