No. 9 — The Granite State

No. 10 | Nos. 11-51

Per capita, no state produces Heps athletes quite like New Hampshire. There are 27 current such athletes, one for every 49,000 people in the state of Live Free or Die. That, by a wide margin, beats out No. 2 Rhode Island, which has a current Ivy trackster for every 70,000 natives.

During the cross country season, Granite Stater and Princeton sophomore Abby Levene earned second-team All-Ivy accolades. The last New Hampshirite to earn first-team honors at Heps was Manchester’s Megan Lessard who won the 2009 indoor mile and outdoor 1,500-meter run for Columbia.

Getting to know New Hampshire a bit more:

The Granite State is a colorful one. After all, the state flower is the purple lilac and the state bird is the purple finch. The state animal is the white-tailed deer and the state tree is the white birch. The state butterfly is the karner blue and the state wildflower is the pink lady slipper. And, of course, the favorite students are the Big Green.
