Princeton Women Secure 2011 Crown

With a dominating performance in the 4×800-meter relay, the Princeton women have assured themselves of the 2011 Outdoor Heps Championship. With just one event remaining, the Tigers hold an insurmountable 21-point lead over second-place Cornell.

The Princeton team of Kristin Smoot, Molly Higgins, Greta Feldman and Alexis Mikealian crushed the meet record in the event by more than nine seconds, finishing in 8:38.33. In fact the first four teams across the line — Princeton, Cornell, Yale and Dartmouth — were each faster than the previous record.

The Columbia Lions had a strong showing in the final field event of the day with junior Monique Roberts winning the high jump with a clearance of 1.73 (5-8). Freshman teammate Tara Richmond and Dartmouth rookie Janae Dunchack tied for second at 1.70 (5-7).

The Penn Quakers rocked the house in the 4×800-meter relay, setting a meet record with a close win over Columbia. The squad of Robert Harwood, Matt Chylak, Brian Fulton and James Finucane held off the Lions, 7:25.36 to 7:25.72. Princeton was fourth and Cornell fifth in the race, leaving the Big Red in dire need of something highly unexpected in the 4×4.
