Today is the Pre Classic at Hayward Field in Oregon and two former Heps champions hope to win on the huge international stage — Anna Pierce (Brown) in the 800m and Morgan Uceny (Cornell) in the 1,500m.
The USATF has an unattributed story that yet again explores Pierce’s hair color. Here is a snippet:
Just as Pierce’s hair colors have evolved, so have her disciplines. In college, Pierce originally ran the 800m and 1500m. She then moved to the steeplechase to be more competitive in the Ivy League while running at Brown University. Her focus has now switched back to the middle-distance events.
“Quite simply I am much faster naturally than I am strong,” commented Pierce. “When I first joined the Mammoth Track Club, I was excelling in the sprint workouts and really struggling on all of the aerobic conditioning workouts. It was a pretty natural transition into the shorter events.”
