Harvard graduate Becky Christensen took a bumpy path in Cork, Ireland, on Saturday, but it turned out to be a victorious one as she claimed the high jump title at the 60th Cork City Sports at the Cork Institute of Technology Athletic Stadium.
Christensen cleared a season-best 1.85 meters (6-0 3/4) on her final attempt to take victory over fellow American Chealsea Taylor, who cleared 1.80 meters (5-10 3/4) without a miss. Unlike Taylor’s flawless performance prior to missing three times at 1.85, Christensen came up big with the pressure on three times, first after missing twice at 1.75 (5-8 3/4) and then after missing first at 1.80.
Her 1.85 clearance actually matches her best-ever outdoor mark as she had cleared it in April in Walnut, Calif. The best indoor clearance ever for the six-time Heps champion was a 2009 leap of 1.91 meters (6-3 1/4).
