Two Ivy Leaguers — Penn soon-to-be sophomore Maalik Reynolds and Princeton incoming freshman Eddie Owens — have been selected among the 79 athletes selected to represent the United States at the Pan American Junior Athletics Championships this weekend in Miramar, Fla.
They were selected following strong showings at the U.S. Junior Nationals in Eugene, Ore., last month. To be selected, along with tons of hard work and talent, athletes must not turn 20 years old before the end of 2011.
Owens was second in the U.S. steeplechase in 9:04.79, about five seconds behind winner Max Darrah of Georgetown while Reynolds, who earned All-America status at the NCAAs in June, posted a 2.17 meter (7-1 1/2) performance just behind the 2.20 (7-2 1/2) of Edward Dudley of Lake Erie College.
Reynolds cleared 2.28 (7-5 1/2) at Outdoor Heps this past spring.
