Cornell men’s coach Nathan Taylor has been tapped to coach the U.S. Virgin Islands as the athletes prepare for the IAAF World Championships in South Korea, the Pan American Games in Mexico and next year’s London Olympics.

A former resident of both St. Thomas and St. Croix, Taylor will work primarily with the jumpers and multi-eventers, thus reuniting with a former Cornellian — NCAA Champion Muhammad Halim, a native of the Virgin Islands.  

Also on the international front for Cornell, all efforts to stop Morgan Uceny, who dominated the Ivy League 800m scene for the Big Red five years ago, are failing. Today in Lignano, Italy, the 25-year-old ran a personal best in the 800-meter run.

Clocked in 1:58.37, she also won the race over fellow Americans Alice Schmidt (1:58.61) and Molly Beckwith (1:59.12). In all, five runners from the U.S. broke the two-minute barrier today. FloTrack video below:
