Ireland Goes Exploring

After 12 seasons as the head cross country coach at Yale, Dan Ireland is heading to Philadelphia to take over the La Salle University program. The Explorers are still reeling from the unexpected passing of Coach Charlie Torpey.

“We are delighted to have Dan join us to lead our program,” said La Salle Athletics Director Tom Brennan said. “It was a thorough search process that involved many stakeholder groups, including current student-athletes and alumni athletes. Dan emerged as the strongest candidate and we are excited to welcome Dan and his family to La Salle.”

Prior to joining the Yale program, Ireland both ran and coached at Georgetown University. He also worked with a number of Olympians as a coach with the Reebok Enclave, one of the strongest running clubs in the nation.

I haven’t been stalking hepstrack enough lately, so I’m 10 days behind the news.  As a recent Yale xc grad I’m sad to see Coach I go, but I wish him all the best.  La Salle is getting a great coach and an all-around great person.
