Every Wednesday, 45-year-old Dan O’Brien — the world’s greatest athlete in the 1990s — tries to determine if he still has it. No, not just the 10 disciplines that led him to mine gold in Atlanta in 1996, but all the events that make up the Olympic Games.
His weekly video series is titled, “Can Dan Do It?” And he has put his skills to the test at boxing, field hockey, archery, BMX biking, beach volleyball, rugby, air rifle and more. Recently he opted to go with something familiar — the high jump.
He asked a familiar face around these parts, Harvard graduate Becky Christensen, to coach him over the bar. She actually helps explain the run-up, the lean and the short final steps in the approach.
