iHeps12 — Women’s Verticals

The high jump looks to be Round 2 for Harvard’s Mary Hirst and Columbia’s Monique Roberts. In 2011, Roberts and Hirst both cleared 5-9 1/4 at Indoor Heps, but Roberts won the title due to fewer misses at earlier heights.  Going into the 2012 Indoor Heps, Hirst has the better season’s best than Roberts, 5-9 3/4 to 5-9 1/4.  Could Roberts become the first three-time indoor champion since Cornell’s Sarah Wilfred (2005-2007)?  Meanwhile, there is currently a six-way tie for the third best performance at 5-7 with Columbia’s Tara Richmond, Cornell’s Jennifer Bush and Ailish Hanly, Penn’s Annie Holland and Kristen Judge, and Princeton’s Theresa Kennedy. Princeton did not score any points in this event last year and they would need a few points from this event in order to keep the Indoor Team Championships. Princeton’s Tory Worthen is aiming high this year, as she could become the second three-time indoor event champion. Worthen currently leads the conference standings with her 12-11 3/4 clearance from this past weekend. She does have some younger competition though, as Harvard’s Allie Pace and Cornell’s Erin Enders have both cleared 12-5 this season and have the potential to go higher. Don’t count out Sarah Engle of Columbia, as she cleared 12-7 1/2 in 2011 and scored points last year at Heps. — Mary Boggs
