Princeton graduate Liz Costello — one of two the only three-time cross country champions in Heps history (with Kate Wiley) — claimed gold at the North America, Central America and Caribbean Athletic Association (NACAC) Cross Country Championship held in Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago, Saturday.
Costello pulled away from silver medalist Tonya Nero on the third and final two-kilometer loop through Queen’s Park Savannah.
Costello finished in 20:26.52, six seconds ahead of Nero, who edged American Laura Thweatt for second. Nero’s medal was only individual one not claimed by Canadian or U.S. runners. Cam Levins, who had a spectacular indoor season at Southern Utah, won the men’s race for his native Canada.
“Liz Costello — the only three-time cross country champion in Heps history”?
Kate Wiley? (Unless one of her wins counts as Ivy and not Heps, or something…)
Plus all the men who’ve won three times?
My own fact checking was well below standard on that!
