Reaching Higher

The Princeton triple jumping Macs — sophomore Damon McLean and senior Garner McCloud — went 1-2 to give their Tigers a 31 1/4 point cushion over Cornell, but there is still too much work to cue up Don Meredith. Doesn’t help that Dandy Don is no longer with us anyway.

McLean was the big winner with a leap of 15.54 meters (51-0) while McCloud passed Brown’s Kenneth Thompson on his final leap of 14.93 meters (48-11 3/4). Team scores with the 5k, 4×4, 4×8, shot put and decathlon left is 152-120 3/4 in favor of the Orange and Black.

UPDATE: Joe Stilin and Chris Bendtsen just put this thing away with a 1-3 showing in the 5k. Stilin won in 14:05.62 while Brown senior Dan Lowry finished in 14:06.03 and Bendtsen 14:06.80. Cornell did not score (and Princeton got another point from sophomore Tyler Udland). Hard to imagine that the Big Red could possibly out the Tigers by 50 points in the relays, shot and dec. If they do, it will be a story told until the end of time… or at least the end of Heps.

Cue Dandy Don’s replacement.
