Hurtault Just Short

Erison Hurtault’s season best in the 400-meter dash in the first round of the Olympic Games in London wasn’t enough to advance to the semifinals.

The Columbia graduate running in his second Games for Dominica ran 46.05 in the final heat of the day, but would have needed to clock 45.60 to assure a place in the next round.

As Hurtault was running, the Stadium remained abuzz about the previous heat, when 2008 Olympic champion LaShawn Merritt simply stopped running after 200 meters. He started slow, couldn’t seem to pick up his pace and dropped out.

Let the guessing begin as this could make the U.S. 4×400 team vulnerable. Dare we wonder if Usain Bolt could make an appearance for Jamaica in that final?
