Powered Up, Ready To Go

Okay, big thanks to Mary for pulling the coverage through while storms knocked the power out here in Indianapolis… for 40 hours!

Our favorite international triple jumpers — Samyr Laine (Harvard & Haiti) and Muhammad Halim (Cornell & U.S. Virgin Islands) — are at it in qualifying this morning. We will have a report very soon.

Also, how about Morgan Uceny. She gets to hang out with David Rudisha and she gets a street named for her back in her Indiana hometown of Plymouth.

“How often does a city our size, have a representative that is first-class 1500 meter,” Plymouth Mayor Mark Senter said. “For her to be from Plymouth and for her to be representing not only the United States of America but Plymouth and the state of Indiana, is just awesome.”

Awesome indeed. She runs in the semifinals on Wednesday.

One final note: Late Sunday night, as I was getting ready to go to bed (without power!), I got a text from a friend who is not a track fan. “Is that really that Cabral kid from Princeton leading the steeplechase?” Before I could reply, another text. “Don’t tell me who wins!”

We may have a convert.
