One Final Day

Samyr Laine didn’t make it to the Olympic medal podium in the triple jump. Even his best jump ever wouldn’t have been close, but he sure did make the Heps Nation proud on Thursday.

His second leap, 16.65 meters (54-7 1/2), was his best of the day and gave him an 11th-place finish at the 2012 Games. The nation of Haiti stopped to watch today as Laine tried to win the nation’s first medal in more than eight decades.

Laine sent this message to his followers (sounds a little preachy, but you know what I mean):

You guys are amazing, truly amazing! I can’t thank you all enough for being in my corner on this journey and although we didn’t claim the prize we were after here at the Olympic Games, I look forward to doing some truly powerful things for Haiti and in general going forward. You can count on it.

Here’s hoping you’ll all continue to ride with me!

We are on the Laine train to the end, Samyr!
