The New York Road Runners have included the Columbia track & field program in the ING New York City Marathon charity program. The Lions are now making five guaranteed entries into the field available as a fundraising initiative.
Columbia is requesting a tax-deductible donation of $2,000 for one of the guaranteed spots in the field as well as a training plan provided by the Columbia coaching staff, email contact with the coaching staff for questions on training and marathon preparation and a Columbia track & field t-shirt.
“We are thrilled to be joining in a partnership with the NYRR and the running community of New York City,” said Coach Willy Wood. “There has been an increasingly greater desire for us to connect our running programs with the City of New York. I believe this to be a great first step.”
“We are ecstatic to introduce our college running program this year,” said Wittenberg, who announced that Columbia and Manhattan College are the first two recipients. “We raise millions of dollars a year for hundreds of charities; we are thrilled to now begin raising greater awareness and funds for our local college running programs.”
The Marathon takes place on Sunday, November 4, this year and those interested in the guaranteed spot package should contact Coach Wood at 212.854.2803 or via email.
