This year, the Penn Quakers men’s season can be summarized with one phrase — “Bring on the new.” After struggling within the conference last year, Red & Blue harriers are turning to new faces to lead the team back into contention. This is quite evident with the hiring of the new program Director Steve Dolan and the sea of new faces leading the race pack.
In every single race this season, the team has been led by its freshmen distance class: Brendan Smith (Fayetteville, N.Y.), Brendon Clark (Chanhassen, Minn.), and Thomas Awad (East Norwich, N.Y.). No other team in the League has had as many freshmen contribute to its team so quickly into their collegiate careers and all three have a chance of being the top freshman finisher at this year’s Heps.
However, this successful transition would not be possible without the guidance from the more experienced members of the program. Seniors Kevin Foy (West Windsor, N.J.), Mike Kiley (Mineola, N.Y.), John Foye (Salt Lake City, Utah) and George Dickson (Rose Valley, Pa.) look to make their final cross country Heps a strong one.
