Kevin Cooper by Brown Athletics
Dan Lowry has emerged as one of the nation’s top runners, including an 11th-place finish at the adidas Wisconsin Invitational. Unfortunately, Lowry — now a graduate student — runs for Michigan instead of Brown because the Bears could certainly use him.
After an early-season team victory at the Iona Meet of Champions at Van Cortlandt Park, Coach Tim Springfield’s crew has struggled at bit at the large invitationals where the size of the fields have swallowed his Bears. This is a team that will enjoy some elbow room on Saturday.
The team’s top runner this season has been senior Conor Grogan (Hudson, Mass.), who was the team’s top finisher at the adidas Invitational in Madison, Wis. Senior Kevin Cooper (Waterford, Ireland), junior Jeff Bush (Westborough, Mass.) and junior Brendan Boyle (Mansfield, Mass.) will need to keep pace to keep Brown in the hunt for a strong finish. Another athlete to watch is senior Erik Berg (Seattle, Wash.), a surprise national qualifier in the 1,500-meter run last spring. — Brett Hoover
