HepsXC — Penn Women

Leslie Kovach by Dan Grossman

After a year of coaching changes, the Penn Quakers are looking forward to a new attitude at Heps this weekend. The distance program has not been competitive of late, but the hiring of Coach Steve Dolan has brought a new mentality to both programs — keeping healthy and planning for the long-term. Penn’s performances in the last month show that the entire team is coming into form as both team and individual finishes are showing better team placement, faster times and closer pack spread times.

Senior Leslie Kovach (Irwin, Pa.), now back from a seven-month injury layoff, is prime for claiming another All-Ivy accolade after claiming the Leopard Invite with a season-best 21:03 for a 6k course. Frosh Hannah Grossman (Wallingford, Pa.) has been a few steps behind Kovach in a majority of the races this season, but could Heps be the first time she passes the All-American?

Junior Kersie Jhabvala (Cary, N.C.) and senior Margaret Diacont (Nazareth, Pa.) proved themselves to be dependable team scorers. Dolan has his teams prepared for this weekend over all others. Chances are, we will see the results of that effort on Saturday. — Mary Boggs
