As always, Heps’ runners weren’t just at Heps on Saturday. Some of the League’s familiar faces were elsewhere.
Let’s start at the PAC-12 Championships at Robinson’s Ranch Golf Course in Santa Clarita, Calif. Dartmouth graduate Alexi Pappas took fourth overall to help her Ducks to the 2012 conference title. She completed the 6k race in 20:11.88, six seconds behind winner Kathy Kroeger of Stanford and two seconds behind teammate Jordan Hasay.
At the Big 10 Championships in East Lansing, Mich., former Brown Bear Dan Lowry was fifth overall for second-place Michigan. Lowry, the first Wolverine across the line in 23:40, is sure to be a factor at NCAAs. Another Ivy Leaguer, Adam Behnke who ran with Columbia as an undergraduate, was 27th overall for Indiana, which placed third.
Finally, at the Big XII Championships on the Jimmy Clay Golf Course in Austin, Texas, two former Heps’ stars — Columbia’s Kyle Merber and Princeton’s Trevor Van Ackeren — helped Texas to second place behind Oklahoma State. Merber was 18th overall in 24:27.0, about 11 ticks in front of Van Ackeren, who was 23rd.
And finally, Mark Amirault, now two years removed from Princeton, was 30th at the Atlantic Coast Championships in Blacksburg, Va. His Virginia Cavalier team was a close second to the host Virginia Tech Hokies.
