The Heps Nation To Louisville

Harvard awaits its fate, watching the announcement on Flotrack

The NCAA has announced the field for its Cross Country Championships — slated for Sat., Nov. 17, at Tom Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Ky. — and the results were favorable to the Heps Nation.

The Columbia men advanced automatically by finishing second at the Northeast Regional. Flotrack’s Kolas Calculator has the Princeton men in as the fifth of 13 at-large selections. On the women’s side, Cornell was the third at-large pick while Harvard, with its strong regional showing, was the eighth of 13 at-large choices.

This will be the first time since 1993 that at least two men’s and two women’s teams from Heps have headed to the Show. In 1993 the Cornell and Dartmouth women were joined by the Dartmouth and Army men. Because it will be asked, the last time two teams of each gender from the Ivy League made it was 1992 (Cornell & Dartmouth women; Brown & Cornell men. The Navy men also advanced that year).

Individually, Maksim Korolev and James Leakos of Harvard will head to Louisville as will Abbey D’Agostino (Dartmouth), Margaret Connelly (Brown) and Greta Feldman (Princeton).

As if four teams and five individuals were not enough, six other Heps graduates will run in Louisville as well — Mark Amirault (Virginia via Princeton), Adam Behnke (Indiana via Columbia), Dan Lowry (Michigan via Brown), Kyle Merber (Texas via Columbia), Alexi Pappas (Oregon via Dartmouth) and Trevor Van Ackeren (Texas via Princeton).

That’s 40 Hepsters at Nationals. Quite a haul!
