Well, looks like we have our women’s Athlete and Rookie of the Week rolled up into one as Princeton freshman Julia Ratcliffe just completed the greatest series and best single weight throw in Ivy League history at the Princeton New Year extravaganza at Jadwin Gym.
She actually set a new Ivy record three times. Her second toss of 19.23 (63-1) broke the League mark of Princeton’s Thanithia Billings set in 2010 (63-0 1/4). After a foul, Ratcliffe pushed the record to 19.42 (63-8) in her fourth attempt and then 19.58 (64-3) in her fifth.
A native of Hamilton, N.Z., Ratcliffe holds pretty much every club and secondary school mark in New Zealand. She was fourth in the hammer throw at the World Junior Championships in Barcelona this summer.
