If you want to claim the HepsTrack Male Athlete of the Week this week, you have a very tall order. Two Cornellians put up crazy efforts on Saturday at the Upstate Challenge at Barton Hall.
High jumper Montez Blair, who is still looking for his first Heps title because of Penn’s Maalik Reynolds, cleared 7-5 1/4 — the highest clearance ever for an Ivy Leaguer indoors. Navy’s Leo Williams got over the bar at 7-6 back in 1983 when the Midshipmen were a member of Heps.
Thrower Stephen Mozia was just as impressive, tossing the shot 65-3 1/2. That not only puts the sophomore behind only Augie Wolf in Heps’ history, his mark is better than any collegiate mark — indoor or out — of Adam Nelson, the Dartmouth graduate who won two Olympic silver medals (one of which could turn to gold someday because the 2004 winner has been recently declared a cheat!).
So, whose up for the challenge today in New Haven?
