Recently at the New York City Half Marathon, Croatian Lisa Stublic left the broadcast announcers speechless as they had no idea who she was, which was their fault given that she was a London Olympian.
But after finishing third she finally made a name for herself and today she took it up another notch. Stublic won the Zurich Marathon in a course-record 2:25:44, several minutes ahead of the runner-up. The time was also a personal best as well as a Croatian national record.
Stublic — who grew up in Waterbury, Conn. — was a member of four Heps cross country championship teams at Columbia. In 2008 she moved to her father’s birthplace of Sisak, Croatia, to embark upon a running career.
We’d say that was a good move.
