Nine Ivy Leaguers looking to make the Worlds Championships today at the U.S. Outdoor Nationals in Des Moines…. and the weather might cooperate a bit.
Des Moines is experiencing morning thunderstorms, but weather.com is claiming that it will be clearing just after noon. Later in the day, storms return.
But all of the Heps Nation participants are competing between 2:45 pm and 5:30 pm Eastern. Here’s to reduced temps (80 degrees or so) and no heavy rains.
Cornell junior Montez Blair kicks off the day with the high jump followed closely by Olympians Craig Kinsley (Brown) and Sean Furey (Dartmouth) in the javelin throw and Big Red sophomore shot putter Stephen Mozia.
From there, it’s all about the Drake blue oval as the NBC national network begins coverage at 4 pm (again, Eastern). Yale grad Kate Grace runs for 800m glory in the final four minutes into the telecast. The determined Ds — Abbey D’Agostino (Dartmouth) and Delilah DiCrescenzo (Columbia) — will run in the 5k final at 4:22 pm.
Donn Cabral (Princeton) looks to recapture his 2012 Olympic form in the steeplechase, which gets underway at 4:55 pm. And then Ben True (Dartmouth), who missed the Worlds 10k by a single place, will finish up in the 5,000-meter run at 5:30 pm.
