If you love long-distance racing, you’re going to love the first weekend in November.
Saturday November 2nd is the 2013 Heps Cross Country Championships at West Windsor Fields, Princeton, N.J. You can follow the action on here and on twitter.
Sunday November 3rd is the ING New York City Marathon, back in all of its glory after being cancelled last year due to Hurricane Sandy damaging the majority of Staten Island and parts of New York City. The race coverage on ESPN2 and WatchESPN.com begins at 9am. (Note – the clocks fall back an hour at 2am on November 3rd!)
If you tune in to the marathon on ESPN2 or happen to be on the streets as a spectator, keep an eye out for Lisa Stublic. The New York Road Runners Club (NYRR) have highlighted her as a “Featured Pro” for the NYC Marathon this year. Yes, she is a Columbia University graduate who is a 2012 Olympian in the marathon (representing Croatia), but Stublic has had quite a successful 2013 so far. This past March, Stublic finished 3rd in the New York City Half Marathon in a new personal best/Croatian national record 1:09.18, surprising the broadcast announcers who were not aware of who she was. Less than a month later, Stublic dominated the Zurich Marathon in a new course-record/personal best/Croatian national record of 2:25:44. Stublic has since attributed her improvements this year due to a new lactate training methodology.
Anyone else we should keep an eye out for at the NYC Marathon? Let us know!
