The following is a HepsNation and track and field public service announcement.
Dartmouth alum Ben True is a nominee for a USA Track and Field Fan Choice “Underdog Performance of the Year” Award this year for his 6th place finish at the World Cross Country Championships this past March. True considered this race one of his strongest moments, as he recalled the event in Saucony’s Strongest Moments interview: “it was not the cross country that American’s are used to, with manicured golf courses, but this was real European cross country, with hay bales you had to jump over, and mud and snow and hills and curves.” Sounds like a good fit for True, who was also an All-American in cross country skiing while at Dartmouth.
True’s nomination on the Fan Choice Awards is as follows:
“In a U.S. men’s distance landscape dominated by headline-grabbing names like Rupp, Ritz and Meb, True led the USA men’s team to a silver medal at the World Cross Country Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland, with a sixth-place, individual finish to post the top finish for an American man in the 12 km in 27 years. Pretty impressive, True? “
Feel free to vote for True and/or any other track and field/cross country performances from 2013 on the USATF Fan Choice Awards website. Voting ends on December 1st, and the winners will be announced at the December 7th Jesse Owens Awards and USATF Hall of Fame Induction ceremony.
