Going to Indoor Worlds with Nigeria?

At the end of January, Cornell junior Stephen Mozia launched a huge personal best in the shot put of 67-4, breaking the Ivy League Indoor Record in the process.   But he broke a second record in the process – the Nigerian national record.

Based on this performance, a Nigerian sports article announced on Saturday that Mozia is planning to represent Team Nigeria in the shot put at the IAAF World Indoor Track and Field Championships in Sopot, Poland.  Mozia would compete in the shot put qualifying round on March 7th, less than a week after he makes his attempt at winning his first indoor shot put title at Indoor Heps.

Although Mozia has previously competed for Team USA for the 2012 World Junior Championships, he can be allowed to switch allegiances (by IAAF Rule 5.4(e)) as a) he has dual citizenship with Nigeria, and b) if all Members (i.e. USA and Nigeria) sign an agreement for IAAF that consents for the switch.

While Hepstrack has confirmed with the Cornell coaches that Mozia will be attending as a part of the Nigerian team, USATF has yet to receive this agreement waiver from Mozia.
