Runner’s World’s Peter Gambaccini is reporting that Abbey D’Agostino has signed a two-year shoe contract with New Balance, a move that was hardly unexpected. Her coach at Dartmouth College, Mark Coogan, has moved to New Balance and will lead a new, yet unnamed, Boston-based team with D’Agostino as its anchor.
“We’re just forming,” Coogan said. “We’re still trying to figure out a name.”
“The option of being in Boston and being with Mark arose, and it was almost a ‘this is too good to be true’ situation,” D’Agostino told Runner’s World. “I feel with New Balance I will be valued as a whole person. Those are the conditions under which I feel I perform the best.”
Next up, according to Team D’Ags, will be the USA Track & Field Championships in Sacramento, where she will run the 5k on June 27 (although the USATF website reports that neither D’Agostino or Jordan Hasay has qualified). After that will be her first European trip, which will be highlighted by her first Diamond League meet, again running the 5k, at Herculis in Monaco. She expects a substantial improvement on her 5,000m best (15:11) at that meet.
