Let Cross Country Begin

The 2014 Ivy League cross country season officially starts today, as we have all 8 schools scheduled to compete across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions this weekend.

The cross country Harvard-Yale-Princeton tri-meet will resume this afternoon (after a brief hiatus) in New Haven at the Yale University Golf Course.  This will be the first time the Princeton men have participated in this meet since 1997, while the Princeton women last competed back in 2011.  There will be a HYP alumni race starting at 3:30pm, with the main racing action beginning at 4:15pm.  Details about the meet schedule and cross country course are available through the Yale Athletics website.

Cornell will be travelling to West Point this afternoon to participate in their annual dual meet with Army.  Both the Big Red men’s and women’s squads are coming into this meet with a 10+ year winning streak (men – 17; women – 11) over the Black Knights.  Details about the race course are available through the Army Sports website.  The races will begin at 4:30pm.

Penn will be challenging their university neighbors at the Big 5 Invitational today at 5:30pm at the Belmont Plateau cross country course.  This event features the five Division 1 universities situated in and around Philadelphia: Penn, Villanova, St. Joseph’s, Temple, and La Salle.

On Saturday, Dartmouth will host Brown at their Dartmouth Invitational at the Hanover Country Club.  The Dartmouth Invitational typically pulls in a number of programs across the Northeast Region, as well as a few unattached semi-pro athletes.  Races are scheduled to start at 10:30am.

Columbia will be sticking close to home on Saturday, as they are scheduled to compete at the Stony Brook Wolfie Invitational.  According to Stony Brooks Sports website, the invitational will feature defending women’s NCAA team champion Providence, Providence men, UConn men, and Marist’s men and women squads.  Action is set to start at 10:30am.
