After a few weekends of some intense competition, this weekend offers a little bit of lighter local flare as many squads will be taking this weekend off from competing.
Columbia will be sticking to the Bronx today as they compete in the Metropolitan Cross Country Championships in Van Cortlandt Park. The Lady Lions will be looking to continue their winning streak against the other NYC-based schools at this event, as they have won the team title for the last 11 years. Meanwhile, the men have placed in the top 3 in this event since 2010, winning in both 2010 and 2011. The women’s 5km race will start at 1pm while the men’s 5 mile race will start at 1:45pm.
Brown, Dartmouth, and Yale will be flocking to Boston’s Franklin Park to compete in the New England Championships on Saturday. Last year, the Dartmouth men and Yale women finished in 3rd place in their respective races on the same course. The women will race tomorrow at noon while the men are scheduled to start at 12:30pm.
We also have some alumni action taking place on Monday – eight Ivy League graduates will be racing as the “Ivy League Select Team” at the Izumo Ekiden on Monday in Japan. The Izumo Ekiden is a six-leg road relay race in varying relay leg lengths (average leg length – 7.52km or 4.67 miles), and the event is considered one of the biggest Japanese University relay races. The current team lineup features Donn Cabral, Joe Stilin, Dan Lowry, James Leakos, Alejandro Arroyo Yamin, Michael Franklin, Brian Leung, and Jacob Sienko. An event preview is available at this link.
