Earlier this season, it was announced that Princeton middle distance runner Rachel Skokowski has earned a Rhodes Scholarship.
Skokowski is a majoring in French and Italian with a focus on French and art history, while also pursuing a certificate in humanistic studies. According to Princeton Athletic Communications, she plans to complete an M.Phil. in modern languages at Oxford University.
Skokowski is one of three Princeton students and 14 Ivy Leaguers who have earned the scholarship this year. The last six Rhodes Scholars who were also members of HepsNation were all women – Princeton’s Laura Shackelton (2003), Harvard’s Sarah Hill and Melissa Dell (2004), Harvard’s Clara Blattler (2008), Yale’s Dakota McCoy (2012), and now Skokowski.
According to the Princeton Athletic Communications release, Skokowski intends to keep running while attending Oxford as a member of the Oxford University Athletics Club. She referred to her love of the sport in her Rhodes application: “Transforming often slow-moving museums into forward-thinking institutions will not be easy, but my passion for running has prepared me to lead these efforts. Running has constantly pushed me to rise to a challenge.”
