Battling in the Cold

This indoor season is starting to get busy as two schools will be making their 2015 debuts while other schools continue to host both local and conference challengers.  Come Sunday, each school in the conference would have competed at least twice this season so we could  start showing early conference event rankings.

Columbia and Penn will be making their 2015 debuts this weekend.  Columbia will be heading to the nearby Armory for their annual NYC Gotham Cup on Friday (action starts at 1pm) to determine who is the best athletics squad of the city.  Penn will have a little longer drive, as they will be returning to Bethlehem, Pa. for the Angry Bird Invitational on Saturday to battle host Lehigh, Monmouth, and St Joseph’s.  The competition is set for a 10am start.

Dartmouth has hosting duties for the second weekend in a row – this time, they will be battling local rivals Colgate, Vermont, and Maine for their first quad meet against non-conference competition since 2012.  The meet starts at 10:30am on Saturday.

Harvard’s Gordon Track will perhaps be the busiest location of the weekend.  Perhaps it won’t be quite as crowded as it is in the photo above (taken during the 2013 Indoor Heps), but it could get close.  The track will play host to Harvard’s Multi-Meet (which starts on Friday at 11am and continues on Saturday at 11:30am), as well as the Beantown Challenge (starts at 11am Saturday).  Brown and Cornell (as well as other Mass.-based schools) are scheduled to join Harvard for the Beantown Challenge on Saturday.  Live results for both of these meets will be available here.

Princeton and Yale will be back in action next weekend.

But if you want some non-indoor action, you can follow the USATF Half Marathon Championships on Sunday.  The race can be viewed online and for free at USATF.tv beginning at 7:45am ET (6:45am CT).  According to both USATF and the official event website, Chris Bendtsen (Pr ’14), James Kelly (H ’06), Ethan Shaw (D ’12), Jacob Sienko (Col ’14), Sarah Cummings (Pr ’11), Olivia Mickle (B ’13), and Lindsay Scherf (H’ 08) are among the Ivy accepted entries for this national championship.  If there is anyone we missed, be sure to let us know through the Contact link at the top of the page.
