In the women’s 4×800 relay, the Columbia Lions took the lead from the end of the initial stagger and never gave it up.  They were challenged by Princeton during the 2nd and 3rd legs, but by the time Sarah Hardie got the baton for the anchor, she was able to pull away.  Unfortunately, Hardie began to die on her second to last lap, allowing Brown’s Taylor Worthy to gain ground and power past her at the bell.  Peabody powered to the win for Brown in 8:54.58.  Cornell’s Shannon Hugard surged in the final lap to pass 3 teams to finish 4th in the team standings while Harvard did not score in the relay.  Although Cornell has a strong 4×400 team, even a Cornell win and a Harvard DNF would not be enough for Cornell to beat Harvard in the team standings so Harvard has secured the team title with an 11 point lead going into the 4x400s.

Jeff Wiseman led Penn to secure the heat win in the men’s 4×400 relay in 3:17.75, powering away from Dartmouth, Columbia, and Harvard in their heat.  In the second heat, Yale’s Marc Andre Alexandre grabbed the early lead for Yale, allowing them to stay in the hunt throughout the remaining legs with Cornell.  On the anchor leg, it was Cornell’s Tobenna Attah and Yale’s Greg Campbell, but Attah pulled away on the final turn and won the final event for the Big Red in 3:15.01.

Fans figured that the women’s 4×400 final would be a battle between Harvard and Cornell. But with Gabrielle Thomas leading off for the Crimson, the Harvard quartet pulled away early and the only question was if they would break any records – all-time meet record or conference record – in the process. They came up just short in the all-time meet record but broke the Barton Hall record with their win in 3:40.81.
