There are some intriguing events going on with members of the Heps Nation this weekend.
On Monday, Coach Jack Fultz will guide the Ivy League Select Team at the 28th Izumo Ekiden, a six-stage, 45-kilometer race with 20 university teams. It is the 19th time that the Ivy team has been part of the race.
Dartmouth graduate Will Geoghegan — who will run the 6.4-kilometer fifth leg — will lead the Ivy squad, as his 13:17.85 personal best 5k time is the fastest in the field.
Here is the Ivy lineup in order: Dartmouth’s Henry Sterling (8.0k), Columbia’s John Gregorek (5.8k), Princeton’s Chris Bendtsen (8.5k), Dartmouth’s Steve Mangan (6.2k), Dartmouth’s Will Geoghegan (6.4k) and Columbia’s Jake Sienko (10.2k).
Meanwhile, back in the U.S., former Harvard standout Lindsey Scherf is set to run back-to-back races. On Sunday she will compete in the USATF 10-kilometer Championship in Minneapolis and then fly to Boston for Monday’s USATF 10-mile Championship. Scherf — who was eighth at the USATF 5k Championships in September — won the USATF 15k national title earlier in the year.
