The New England Council honored Dartmouth grad Abbey D’Agostino as one of four “New Englanders of the Year” at its annual gala in Boston last night.
D’Agostino — a seven-time national champion for the Big Green — received world acclaim to her reaction to being knocked down and injured in the first round of the 5,000-meter run at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro this summer. Despite a serious injury which required surgical repair, she not only finished the race, she implored another injured to complete her race as well.
The other three were General Electric Chairman & CEO Jeffrey R. Immelt (a former Big Green football player), retired U.S. Ambassador to NATO and Harvard Kennedy School of Government Prof. R. Nicholas Burns, and Rhode Island Governor Gina M. Raimondo.
